Market Reporter, German speaking

“Argus Media sucht deutschsprachige Reporter in London“ Argus is a fast-growing global media company providing essential information to the commodities industries. We are looking for a market reporter to join our editorial team to cover the German oil market and report on deals, price movements and market news. The German Handel report is produced in German, while news on the Argus Direct web platform will also be in English, so an ability to write fluently in both languages, and to be comfortable in a predominately English-speaking office environment, is essential. This is an excellent opportunity to forge your career covering the economically influential sector of German oil products. You will apply and develop your skills across daily market and news reporting, market analysis and features in this fast-paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess the German oil market to produce daily price assessments, market analysis, news and reports, demonstrating a thorough understanding of Argus’ editorial standards and compliance processes
  • Engage with the industry to ensure a close understanding of market developments through daily contact with traders, refiners and other key market figures to build relationships and gather news
  • Contribute high quality and original copy to relevant publications and the on-line news service, following house style
  • Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus
  • Be rigorous in applying Argus’ market price assessment methodology and contribute to the development of the methodology.

Skills and Experience

  • A graduate with a strong university degree
  • Ability to develop, source and write industry relevant news to deadline
  • Knowledge of the energy and commodity sectors useful but not essential
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills, in both German and English, and strong numeracy (these will be tested as part of the interview process)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build contacts with industry executives
  • Strong co-ordination and time management skills with the ability to work well within a team
